Skillsmart Retail is the Sector Skills Council for Retail. We are committed to driving a step change in retail skills and helping retailers deliver competitive advantage through their people.
We do this by:
- Encouraging more ambition, investment and innovation in retail skills
- Getting retailers to work collaboratively and collectively to make the most of their training, leading to a highly skilled and productive retail workforce
- Increasing the ambition and aspiration of individuals to gain the skills they need to operate in and develop their retail career
We know that attracting, keeping and developing people through skills, training and qualifications delivers a competitive advantage in retail businesses and results in a more productive UK workforce. Retailers consistently highlight three key people priorities:
- Finding and recruiting the right people
- Retaining and developing employees
- Building the management team of the future
These have become even more important in the current economic climate given the skills and employment challenge now facing all UK retailers.
